Latest Updates

April 5, 2024 Project Update #14: Border-to-Border Trail – Huron River Dr Trail (Scio Twp)

Construction is expected to get loud on the D3 Segment of the Border-to-Border Trail along the Huron River in Scio Township.

Over the next few weeks, as the contractor prepares to place the pedestrian bridge, workers will begin pile driving. The work involves using a pile driving machine to pound long steel piles into the soil to create a stable foundation for the bridge abutments. Residents should expect loud noise levels between the hours of 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, while this work is being performed.

As a reminder, please refrain from entering the project site or climbing on the bridge pieces. This location continues to be an active construction zone and is not open for public use. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.

Have questions about the project? Contact Michele Ford, Sr. Project Manager – Traffic & Safety, at (734) 327-6652, or via email at [email protected].

March 21, 2024 Project Update #13: Border-to-Border Trail – Huron River Dr Trail (Scio Twp)

As the weather warms up, residents can expect to see construction continue on the D3 section of the Border-to-Border (B2B) Trail along the Huron River in Scio Township.

Last fall, the contractor was able to install fencing, repair crossroad cuts, pave the shoulder of Zeeb Rd and complete slope stabilization near one of the retaining walls for the pathway.

The contractor has finally received all the necessary railroad approvals, so they will begin work on the pedestrian bridge abutments soon. This work will involve excavation, pile driving, and concrete work. The bridge erection is expected to happen this summer. Next week, there may be some work along the trail that will cause intermittent lane restrictions on Huron River Dr between Zeeb Rd and E Delhi Rd, so please stay alert when using this segment of road.

As a reminder, please refrain from entering the project site or climbing on the bridge pieces. This location continues to be an active construction zone and is not open for public use. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.

Construction continues on the D3 section of the Border-to-Broder (B2B) trail along the Huron River in Scio Township.

The contractor has a few more items to finish up before the end of the construction season. In the next couple of weeks, residents can expect to see fence work, repair of crossroad cuts in the road surface, shoulder paving on Zeeb Rd near Huron River Dr, and slope stabilization near one of the retaining walls of the trail. Unfortunately, railroad approvals and the contractor schedule have pushed paving of the pathway and bridge erection to 2024.

As a reminder, please refrain from entering the project site or climbing on the bridge pieces. It is an active construction zone and is not open for public use. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.

The contractor continues to await approvals from Amtrak before they can build the bridge abutments and place the bridge.

As a reminder, for the safety of the public and workers, please refrain from entering the project site or climbing on to the bridge pieces. It is an active construction zone and is not open for public use.

September 27, 2022 B2B Pathway D3: Construction Starting Soon (We Really Mean It)!

We’re planning to start construction next week on section D3 of the Border-to-Border (B2B) pathway along the Huron River in Scio Township. We have all the necessary permits and our contractor is ready to go.

To get started, our contractor will build a temporary construction driveway on Huron River Dr,  west of Delhi MetroPark. They will also prepare the work site for earthwork. Nearly all of this early earthwork will take place well away from the road and won’t impact traffic.

Due to the complexity of this construction, the pathway is expected to take more than a year to complete. When completed, this segment will run from the intersection of Zeeb Rd and Huron River Dr to Delhi Metropark.

Questions? Contact Michele Ford, project manager, [email protected], (734) 327-6652.

June 8, 2022 B2B Pathway D3: Construction Starting Soon!

Good news…construction is expected to begin soon on section D3 of the Border-to-Border (B2B) pathway along the Huron River in Scio Township. After months of working through a complex design and permitting process, our contractor is expected to begin earthwork in the coming weeks.

This trail project begins at the intersection of Zeeb Rd and Huron River Dr and ends in Delhi Metropark (1.1 miles), joining two previously completed sections of B2B Trail. The trail is on the south side of Huron River Dr and within the road and railroad rights-of-way before crossing the Huron River and entering Delhi Metropark. The trail work includes grading, paving of an asphalt trail, construction of retaining walls, installation of a pedestrian bridge over the Huron River, turf restoration and plantings, and other related improvements.

Initially, there will not be any significant impact to motorists, most of the pathway construction will take place away from the road. However, later this year, there will be brief closures on Zeeb Rd near Huron River Dr and Huron River Dr between Preserve Dr and Greenook Dr as we install two crossroad culverts. We will post an advisory in advance of these closures.

Due to the complexity of this construction, the pathway is expected to take more than a year to complete.

Questions? Contact Michele Ford, project manager, [email protected], (734) 327-6652.
