July 9, 2020 Lane Restrictions: Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road (Lodi Twp)

WHEN: Friday, July 10, 2020

WHERE: Intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township

WHY: Asphalt repair

BACKGROUND: On Friday, July 10, 2020, the Washtenaw County Road Commission’s contractor will repair some pavement defects at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township.

The road will not be closed to traffic, but delays are likely due to lane restrictions. WCRC encourages motorists, emergency services and others to use an alternate route.

The new traffic signal at this intersection will be in flash mode to help facilitate lane restrictions. It will return to the normal cycle once the work has been completed.

The repairs are expected to take approximately one day. However, all dates are tentative and subject to change due to weather conditions.

June 18, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Wagner Rd: Pavement Defeats Will Be Fixed

Last week, we reopened the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township. Unfortunately, since the reopening, we have discovered pavement defects in some of the freshly placed asphalt. This type of defect isn’t very common but unfortunately can happen.

Our crews will continue to monitor and patch the defected area until permanent repairs can be made by our contractor. Since we are already planning to return to Lodi Township this fall to finish resurfacing Pleasant Lake Road between Zeeb Road and Wagner Road, our preliminary plan is to pair permanent repairs on Ann Arbor-Saline Road with the paving planned on Pleasant Lake Road.

We will provide a more detailed schedule as we get closer.

If you have any questions about this work, please contact Michele Ford, project manager, (734) 327-6652, fordm@wcroads.org.

June 8, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Wagner Rd: Getting Close

We continue to make steady progress on our project at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township. We have a few items to finish before the intersection can be reopened to traffic, including pavement markings and final signal work. We are hoping to have it reopened in the next week or so if the weather cooperates.

Thank you for your patience. If you have questions about the project, please contact Michele Ford, project manager, (734) 327-6652, fordm@wcroads.org.

May 26, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Wagner Rd: Paving Has Begun

After a tough start to the month, we’ve made great progress in the past couple of weeks at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township. The damaged concrete was removed and replaced. Our contractor paved the first layer of asphalt last week. We are hoping to apply the second layer this week if the weather cooperates. We have also started to install the traffic signal.

While we have made great progress, we still have some important items to finish before we can safely reopen the road, including placing gravel shoulders, installing pavement markings and placing permanent signs.

The intersection remains closed, please continue to stay out of the work zone for your safety and the safety of those working on site.

Our contractor placed the first layer of asphalt last week.

May 6, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Wagner Rd: We Need Your Help

This week, we started pouring concrete pavement at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township. We were making great progress but unfortunately, last night someone maliciously drove through the work zone and damaged much of the fresh concrete.

The damage will delay the project by at least a week and is estimated to cost about $20,000 to remove and replace.

This terrible act is being investigated by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office. They believe that the tire impressions are from an all-terrain type vehicle that appears to be pulling a trailer. If you have any information, please contact the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office at (734) 994-2911.

We know that any road closure is frustrating but we ask that you please obey the signs and barricades. We have closed the intersection for your safety, the safety of our workers and to protect the road infrastructure we are building. Concrete takes time to cure and as we saw last night, cannot be driven, biked or walked on until it has properly cured. Please help us by staying out of the work zone.

post from Washtenaw County Sheriff Dept.

May 4, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd and Wagner Rd: Time for Concrete!

We continue to make steady progress on our project at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township.

Today, our contractor started pouring concrete pavement and this work will continue throughout this week. Once the concrete has been poured, it takes days to get to full traffic-bearing strength. Vehicles of all kinds must stay out of the work zone. Driving across the newly placed concrete pavement will damage it beyond repair and result in the removal of that concrete, extending the duration of the current closure. Moreover, entering the work zone is hazardous for both motorists and road workers.

Once the concrete has cured, our contractor will continue to prepare the roadbed north and south of the intersection for asphalt paving.

To help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), our employees and contractors are instructed to practice social distancing while on the job site. If you have questions about the project, please do not approach staff in the field. Instead, contact Michele Ford, project manager, (734) 327-6652, fordm@wcroads.org.

April 22, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road: Placing Curb
Despite the gray spring weather, we continue to make progress on the improvement project at the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road in Lodi Township. Earlier this week, our contractor finished installing the storm sewer and today, they started pouring concrete curb. Once they finish pouring the curb and the concrete has cured to sufficient strength, they have some additional earthwork to complete before concrete pavement can be poured.

So far, they have removed all the existing pavement and are working to place the new storm sewer. In addition, they have started to grade the roadbed in preparation for the aggregate base. We are hoping they can start pouring the concrete curb soon.

March 24, 2020 Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road: Intersection Closed

This morning our contractor closed the intersection of Ann Arbor-Saline Road and Wagner Road to begin the scheduled intersection improvement project. The intersection will be closed for approximately 3 months. Residents and property owners who live within the work zone will be provided access to their properties but all other traffic needs to use the posted detour or seek an alternate route.
