Shield Road Bridge – Progress Update

Since the road was closed on June 12, the contractor has removed the old bridge, installed cofferdams (steel sheeting enclosure to keep water out of the work area), excavated soil for the foundations and started to install foundation piling.  The contractor plans to finish the foundation piling on Thursday, July 20 for the east foundation and pour a concrete pad inside the cofferdam enclosure, which will provide workers with a solid surface to build the concrete foundations.

The pedestrian bridge remains open next to the roadway, but the existing crosswalk across Shield Rd is closed during construction.  Pedestrians can follow the path delineated adjacent to Shield Rd to gain access to the Dexter High School.  Please remember this is a construction work zone and only authorized personnel are permitted in the work zone for safety reasons.
