The Right-of-Way Section
Land purchases, right-of-way easement acquisitions, land swapping and relocation requirements are important elements in planning any project, as the need for right-of-way can add significant impacts to property owners, the project timeline and its cost. This type of extensive work that is involved in purchasing land and acquire the right-of-way and easements was demonstrated in the planning of Dixboro Road Bridge replacement project.
The Right-of-Way staff works extensively to ensure that the adequate rights-of-way and easements are acquired for a project, by collaborating with township officials, property owners and developers. It is another reason why it is imperative that townships work closely with Road Commission staff to carefully consider how their current right-of-way plan will be impacted by any of the projects they are considering for inclusion in the CIP.
