Background
In 2005, The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) hired Mead & Hunt of Lansing, Michigan to conduct an assessment of the East Delhi Road Bridge in Scio Township. The assessment was necessary in order to assess the severe deterioration of the bridge, as well as the social, economic, and environmental impacts, and the funding availability that a restoration project may entail.
The East Delhi Bride crosses the Huron River in Scio Township and is situated in the midst of scenic residential and recreational landscapes. The current structure is a truss bridge and was closed to traffic in June 2005. Due to the condition of the bridge, the WCRC was awarded Local Bridge funds for improvements.
After evaluating several design options, the Board of Road Commissioners elected to authorize the rehabilitation of the East Delhi Bridge in June 2006.
