The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) is responsible for maintaining a road system that is reasonably safe and convenient to the traveling public. The Road Commission currently maintains over 1,650 miles of roads in the county system as well as 111 bridges, and more than 2000 culverts.
Our duties include snow removal, salting and sanding; construction, repair, and maintenance; surface treatments such as overlays and sealcoats; gravel road maintenance such as grading and dust control; maintenance of pavement markings, signs, and traffic signals; controlling roadside vegetation control; and roadside ditch maintenance.
Environmental concerns and good stewardship play an integral part in carrying out these responsibilities. The WCRC is held to environmental standards on several fronts:
- The Board of County Road Commissioners’ directive to be good stewards and promote best practices regarding the environment.
- WCRC is bound by local, state, and federal rules, regulations, and laws.
- WCRC has voluntarily entered into several environmentally related agreements with other community partners.
- WCRC honors the public expectation that we be good stewards regarding the environment.
With this oversight, and the desire to promote good environmental practices within our own community, the WCRC continuously strives to improve our environmental efforts.
