Seasonal Weight Restrictions SUSPENDED effective Monday, March 13, 2017 at 6 a.m.

WHAT: Seasonal Weight Restrictions Suspended

WHEN: Effective 6 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017

WHERE: Countywide

WHY: Road and Weather Conditions

BACKGROUND: The Washtenaw County Road Commission will SUSPEND the Seasonal Weight Restrictions effective 6 a.m. on Monday, March 13, 2017.  This action is taken in accordance with the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners’ Resolution No. RC09-052, and pursuant to Act 300 of the Public Acts of 1949, as amended [MCL §257.722].  Information about Seasonal Weight Restrictions is available on the Road Commission’s website.

Seasonal Weight Restrictions recently went into effect beginning February 17, 2017 and the restrictions will have been in effect for 24 days.

Typically each spring, in accordance with state law, the Road Commission reduces the weight and speed limits for trucks as temperatures begin to rise and the ground begins to thaw.  As the road subsurface thaws, the roads’ ability to carry weight is reduced, meaning that a weight that would not affect a road under normal conditions, might now damage the road.  These restrictions help to extend/preserve the service life of the roadways
