Background
The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has hired HH Engineering of Detroit, Michigan, to conduct the rehabilitation design of the East Delhi Road Bridge in Scio Township.
The East Delhi Bridge crosses the Huron River in Scio Township and is situated in the midst of scenic, residential and recreational landscapes. The current structure is a truss bridge and was closed to vehicular traffic in June of 2005. Due to the very poor condition of the bridge, the WCRC was awarded Local Bridge funds for the rehabilitation of the structure. In 2006, the East Delhi Rd Bridge was determined by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
Improvements, such as paving or widening, are not within the scope of this project. These types of improvements are initiated by township or citizen request and are funded primarily through special assessment districts.
Public Meetings
The WCRC expects to hold public information meetings in May 2007 and October 2007. These dates are subject to change as the project progresses.
Project Updates
February 2007 - Soil borings were performed by G2 Consulting Group in order to gather information to aid in the design of the bridge foundations.
January 2007 - HH Engineering was hired to complete the design of the rehabilitation of the East Delhi Rd Bridge.
August 2006 - Completion of the Environmental Assessment (EA) Study performed by Mead & Hunt. (Small Version - Final Project Evaluation Report - without images) or (Large Version - Final Project Evaluation Report - with images)
June 22, 2005 - Bridge closed due to severe deterioration of structure. (Closure press release)

- January 2007: Kickoff Meeting with HH Engineering
- January - May 2007: Prepare Type, Size & Location (TS&L) plans for submittal to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT)
- May 2007: Public Information Meeting
- May - September 2007: Prepare Grade Inspection (GI) plans for submittal to MDOT
- October 2007: Public Information Meeting
- September 2007 - January 2008: Prepare Final plans, proposal and estimate for submittal to MDOT
- May 2008: MDOT bid letting
- June 2008: Start construction
