On Thursday, January 14, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) held an open house meeting at Lodi Township to share information about two upcoming projects:
- A compact rural roundabout at Ann Arbor-Saline and Textile Road
- Resurfacing Textile Road between Maple and Ann Arbor-Saline
The public meeting took a unique format. Instead of a presentation, attendees moved through four stations where they learned more about the projects, how to travel roundabouts, and asked questions of the projects’ engineers and roundabout experts.
One month after Governor Snyder signed the long overdue road funding package to restore the State’s transportation infrastructure, House Bill 5016 jeopardizes road projects by threatening to increase the price tag associated with making road improvements, potentially costing Washtenaw County residents hundreds of thousands of dollars a year.
During storms and high winds, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) receives many phone calls about loss of power at signalized intersections. Residents often ask how WCRC responds to “dark signals” and how to drive safely through intersections where a traffic light has lost power.
What are WCRC’s next steps after a signal loses power?
In November 2015, the Washtenaw County Road Commission finished the North Delhi Road Improvement Project located between Huron River Drive and Eastgate Drive on the Scio/Webster Township line. North Delhi Road was a gravel road with high daily traffic counts and poor drainage.
The Scio Township community had wanted to pave North Delhi Road for some time, but due to state inaction on road funding and rising road construction costs, the Washtenaw County Road Commission did not have the resources necessary to convert North Delhi Road into a paved road.
The culvert on Strawberry Lake Road, west of Mast Road, in Webster Township was recently closed to all traffic until further notice. This was an unexpected closure. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) attempted to temporarily repair the culvert earlier this year, but the repair failed due to the overall poor condition of the culvert.
