WCRC opens two new roundabouts on Textile Road (Ypsilanti Township)

Washtenaw County Road Commission has opened two compact urban roundabouts on Textile Road in Ypsilanti Township, one at Hitchingham Road and the other at Stony Creek Road. Construction started on Monday, June 22nd and the roads were re-opened to the public on Tuesday, August 25th.

The primary goal of the Textile Road roundabouts project is to alleviate the congestion caused by peak periods of rush hour traffic and nearby East Arbor Charter Academy and Arbor Preparatory High School. The schools provided $500,000 in funding for the project.

Public Act 283: How we have used the 0.5-Mil to fix local roads

Last year, the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners used Public Act 283 (P.A. 283) to levy a one-year, 0.5-mil property tax to help address the county’s failing road system at the local level. 

Austin Road Bridges Re-Opened (Saline Township)

On Friday, August 21st the Washtenaw County Road Commission re-opened two bridges on Austin Road in Saline Township, one over the Saline River and the other over the Bauer Drain. Both bridges were in “poor” condition and we replaced both structures. We built a conventional bridge over the Saline River and a concrete box culvert over the Bauer Drain. 

Hewitt Road Project Completed Friday, June 12th (Ypsilanti Township)

Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has re-opened Hewitt Road after completing a road diet between Ellsworth and Packard. There is a second road diet project currently under construction on Huron River Drive, between Hewitt and Cornell. Sections of Hewitt and Huron River Drive had shut down in April when crews began the road diet projects.

Big Truck & Emergency Vehicle Day at Dexter Library - Friday, June 26th

This Friday, WCRC is participating in Dexter’s annual Big Truck & Emergency Vehicle Day at the Dexter Library. This annual event is a great opportunity for children and adults to learn about, tour and meet the owners of emergency vehicles.

Public Act 283 - 2015 Road Improvements

The Washtenaw County Road Commission is pleased to announce our first Public Act 283 County funded road improvement project was recently completed on Huron River Drive, from the Mast Road to Dexter Huron MetroPark, in Scio Township.  This $200,000 mill and resurfacing project was funded with the approved 0.5 mil County millage per Public Act 283 resolution last fall.  The County Board of Commissioners should be recognized for their leadership in committing local resources in improving our County’s road network, while our elected Officials in Lansing continue to debate options on a much need
