On November 2, 2010, the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners will consider the adoption of their 2011-2015 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
Over the past several months, Steve Puuri, Managing Director, Roy Townsend, Director of Engineering, Jim Harmon, Director of Operations, and other Road Commission staff have identified the county road system needs and other capital investments to include in the CIP, a five-year guide that is reviewed and revised annually.
The Board of Road Commissioners has determined the 2011–2015 Capital Improvement Plan be scaled back in certain areas to assure the Road Commission realizes some previously established priority projects. The scaled back version of our DRAFT 2011-2015 CIP provides $28,347,000 of capital investment for the five-year period. However, several annual programs have been reduced or eliminated in order to reduce the impact of the Capital Improvement Plan on the Road Commission road maintenance activities. The changes include the following:
- Equipment Investment reduced by $375,000
- Facilities Investment reduced by $325,000
- Primary Road Limestone Resurfacing reduced by $250,000
- Primary Road Bridge Investments reduced by $300,000
- Several Other Minor Updates and Adjustments
The Road Commission's Capital Improvement Plan includes those projects and annual activities where funding has been identified. Additional projects may be added on an annual basis, if supplemental resources become available.
Public Comment Period
Our annual process to develop this DRAFT CIP includes staff assessments of the road system needs and soliciting input from our key stakeholders, transportation partners, and township officials. “The CIP will literally be our guide for road improvements and preventive maintenance activities over the next five years. It is important that we consider the overall needs of our county road system and welcome your input in refining the process”, emphasizes Puuri.
The Road Commission is accepting public comments on the proposed 2011-2015 Capital Improvement Plan. In addition, we have provided a list of 2011-2015 Unfunded Projects which summarizes other requests where funding has not been identified. Once approved, the 2011-2015 Capital Improvement Plan booklet will be made available in its entirety for public viewing on the Road Commission website.
