Whittaker Road / Stony Creek Road Roundabout Project Begins

Posted on April 16, 2010

The Washtenaw County Road Commission recently held a public information meeting for the Whittaker Road / Stony Creek Road Roundabout project located in Ypsilanti Township.  The purpose of the meeting was to provide information to the general public about the expected traffic impacts due to the road construction.

The proposed intersection improvements consist of 0.49 miles of roundabout construction including hot-mix asphalt pavement reconstruction, concrete curb and gutter, aggregate shoulders, drainage work, sign installation, pavement markings, and restoration.

The roundabout will be constructed in two phases:

Phase 1 includes the construction of Stony Creek Road southwest of Whittaker Road.  During Phase 1, Stony Creek Road will be closed to through traffic and a detour will be posted.  The DETOUR route will be Textile Road and Whittaker Road.  Access to the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge and Pine View Golf Course will be from the south on Stony Creek Road.  Whittaker Road will remain open to traffic during Phase 1.

During Phase 2, the intersection of Whittaker Road and Stony Creek Road will be closed for a period not to exceed 35 calendar days.  Traffic will be detoured to Textile Road and Huron River Drive.  Throughout the closure, Paint Creek Shopping Center and Whittaker Road Office Complex patrons will be granted access to Whittaker Road from the north.  Access to the KC Daycare, CVS Pharmacy, Chase Bank and the Ypsilanti District Library will be permitted to Whittaker Road from the south.

Currently, construction is expected to begin on April 19, 2010, and the entire project is to be completed no later than July 30, 2010.
