Why: Intersection Safety Improvement

Background

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. have scheduled the start of construction operations at the Rawsonville Road @ Bemis Road intersection for Tuesday, June 1, 2010.  The improvements to be made at the intersection include the addition of left-turn lanes and a traffic signal.  Related work will include storm sewer installation, concrete curb and gutter construction and hot mix asphalt paving.

Portable electronic message signs are currently on site to inform passing motorists of the impending construction start.  Temporary construction signs are being erected.

Two-way traffic on both Rawsonville Road and Bemis Road will be maintained during construction operations.  However, the work will require intermittent LANE CLOSURES and flagging operations.  Traffic delays are expected.  Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes whenever possible.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed in early-September.

To ensure the safe return of road workers to their families at the end of each workday, motorists are asked to be especially mindful of construction equipment and personnel and reduce speeds accordingly.  The posted speed limit on Rawsonville Road and Bemis Road will be reduced to 35 mph for the duration of construction.  Emergency services providers, including the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, have been advised.  The Washtenaw County Road Commission and Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. thank you in advance for your patience as we undertake these improvements.
