Why: Asphalt Paving Operations

Background

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. have scheduled the start of asphalt paving operations at the Rawsonville Road @ Bemis Road intersection for Wednesday, August 11, 2010.  Two-way traffic on Rawsonville Road and Bemis Road will be maintained.  However, intermittent single-lane closures and flagging operations will be necessary to complete the paving work.  Traffic DELAYS are expected.  Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes whenever possible.

The paving operations are expected to take three (3) days to complete.  The work will include paving three layers (courses) of asphalt pavement and pavement striping.  Paving work and the schedule are weather dependent.

Portable electronic message signs are currently on site to inform passing motorists of the impending asphalt paving.

To ensure the safe return of road workers to their families at the end of each workday, motorists are asked to be especially mindful of construction equipment and personnel and reduce speeds accordingly.  The posted speed limit on Rawsonville Road and Bemis Road has been reduced to 35 mph for the duration of construction.  Emergency services providers have been advised.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and Barrett Paving Materials, Inc. thank you in advance for your patience as we continue these intersection safety improvements.
