On May 6, 2009, the
County Road Association of Michigan
presented Dan Ackerman with the
Finance and Human Resource Committee – COMMENDATION
AWARD for OUTSTANDING SERVICE. Dan began serving as a
contract Accountant for the Washtenaw County Road Commission in
June1994 and was hired later that year. In March, 1998, Dan was
promoted to Finance Director and continues to serve the Road
Commission in this capacity.
John Strauss, Director of Finance for the Kent County Road Commission, participated in the selection process for this prestigious award and reflects on Dan’s contributions. “As the Chairman of the Committee at that time, I was pleased to participate in the determination of the award recipient and was honored to be the one to present the award to Dan. Dan has made significant efforts for the advancement of the Finance and Human Resource functions of the 83 road commissions in the State of Michigan.”
John goes on to highlight Dan’s accomplishments within the Finance and Human Resource Committee, all leading to his selection by the County Road Association:
- Served as chairperson and participated for several years as a member of the Finance and Human Resource Committee.
- Member and contributor to the Finance and Human Resource Committee – Management Information System, County Road Association of Michigan (MISCRAM) Sub-Committee.
- Has often been a presenter and provided musical entertainment at the committee’s annual Business Seminar.
- Helped to create and lead the Precision Users Self Help group (PUSH).
- Regularly and consistently volunteered to help in any way for the betterment of Road Commissions.
When asked about his involvement in the Finance and Human Resource Committee, Dan emphasizes it’s the perfect place to “share information and learn from each other”. He hesitates to boast of the award but quickly adds, “It is an honor to be selected by my peers whom I admire and have a lot of respect for.”
Dan graduated from Albion College with a double major in Economics (Accounting emphasis) and Music. He pursued graduate studies at Eastern Michigan University and earned his MBA. Those who know him well are aware of Dan’s talent as an accomplished saxophonist and membership with the Dexter Community Band. In Dan’s mind, music and accounting go hand-in-hand. With each one, “you’re always counting”!
Dan resides in Dexter, Michigan with his wife, Sheri, and their two children, Owen and Amelia. On an occasional Sunday you may catch him performing with the “II-V-I Orchestra” at the Creekside Grill off Jackson Road, Ann Arbor.
Please join us in congratulating Dan on his award!
