When: Thursday, October 01, 2009

Where: Plymouth Road Bridge over Fleming Creek, Superior Township

Why: Construction Completion

Background

Construction of the new Plymouth Road Bridge over Fleming Creek, located between Vorhies Road and M-153 in Section 8 of Superior Township, and associated road approach improvements were completed on October 1, 2009.  The Washtenaw County Road Commission REOPENED the road at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.

The newly completed concrete box beam bridge is not weight restricted (full legal loads).  Work completed over the preceding three month period included removal of the existing, deteriorated bridge; construction of the new bridge including steel H-pile foundations, concrete abutments, concrete box beam installation, concrete deck and barrier railing; and the full-depth reconstruction of the roadway approaches.

Removal of the related construction and detour signs is expected within the next few days.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission thanks area motorists, residents and businesses for the courtesy and patience displayed during the closure.  The new bridge will provide a reliable, safe crossing of the Fleming Creek for many decades to come.
