Jackson Road Traffic Switch

What: Traffic Switch for Road Construction

When: Beginning Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Where: Jackson Road between Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and Dino Drive in Scio Township

Why: Road Reconstruction / Boulevard Extension – STAGE IV

Background

On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Dan’s Excavating, Inc. will SWITCH two-way traffic from the westbound portion of the Jackson Road boulevard to one lane of traffic in each direction on the outer lanes of the new boulevard.  The majority of crossovers have been constructed and will be used to provide access to businesses on the opposite sides of the new roadway.  This traffic switch is similar to the permanent traffic operation for the boulevard and necessary to allow for construction of the median area (Stage IV).

The Stage IV work involves constructing the remaining crossovers, completing the traffic signal work at the Jackson Road/Baker Road intersection, placing concrete curb and gutter, final grading of the median, and restoration and landscaping of the median area.

Construction signs, barrels and barricades will continue to be used to maintain and direct traffic.  In addition, flagging operations may be used to accomplish the work.  Therefore, motorists are advised to seek an alternate route and remain patient during these delays.

The Jackson Road project is in the final stage of construction.  It is anticipated that this project will be completed and the boulevard will be opened to traffic by the end of 2009.  However, please be advised that due to weather conditions, all dates are tentative and subject to change.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through work zones. The posted speed limit within the project limits is 35 mph.  In addition, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department has been providing increased enforcement activity during construction to assure the safety of the road crews and motorists.  The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
