What: Road Reconstruction / Boulevard Extension - STAGE II
When: Beginning Monday, March 30, 2009
Where: Jackson Road between Lowe's Home Improvement Store and Dino Drive in Scio Township including the Jackson Road / Baker Road Intersection.
Why: Impending Road Construction
Background
Beginning Monday, March 30, 2009, the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Dan's Excavating, Inc. will resume construction activities associated with the reconstruction of Jackson Road from the end of existing pavement near Lowe's Home Improvement Store through Dino Drive west of Baker Road, in Scio Township.
The remaining Stage II work involves completing the majority of the storm sewer, cutting in the roadbed for the westbound (north side) boulevard, placing sand sub base and aggregate base, and paving the westbound concrete roadway. In addition, the intersection of Jackson Road and Baker Road will be reconstructed to accommodate the new boulevard configuration.
Construction signs, barrels and barricades will continue to be used to maintain and direct traffic. In addition, flagging operations will be in place to accomplish the work. Intermittent stopping of traffic will be necessary and long traffic delays are likely, especially during paving operations. Therefore, motorists are advised to seek an alternate route and remain patient during these delays.
The Jackson Road project is entering the second year of the two-year project schedule. It is anticipated that this project will be completed and the boulevard will be opened to traffic by the end of 2009. However, please be advised that due to weather conditions, all dates are tentative and subject to change.
To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through work zones. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been reduced to 40 mph. In addition, the assistance of the Washtenaw County Sheriffs Department has been requested to assure the safety of the road crews and motorists through increased enforcement activity during construction. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
