What: Road Reconstruction / Boulevard Extension - STAGE III
When: Beginning Monday, June 22, 2009
Where: Jackson Road between Lowe's Home Improvement Store and Dino Drive in Scio Township
Why: Traffic Switch for Road Construction
Background
On Monday, June 22, 2009, the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Dan’s Excavating, Inc. will switch two-way traffic from the existing temporary road to the newly constructed westbound portion of the Jackson Road boulevard. Access to all south side businesses will be maintained although driveways may be temporarily relocated and/or combined to facilitate construction activities. This traffic switch is necessary to allow for construction of the eastbound portion of the boulevard (Stage III).
The Stage III work involves completing the sanitary and storm sewer, cutting in the roadbed for the eastbound (south side) boulevard, placing sand subbase and aggregate base, paving the eastbound concrete roadway, constructing south side driveways and sidewalks, and all associated restoration.
Construction signs, barrels and barricades will continue to be used to maintain and direct traffic. In addition, flagging operations will be in place to accomplish the work. Intermittent stopping of traffic will be necessary and long traffic delays are expected, especially during paving operations. Therefore, motorists are advised to seek an alternate route and remain patient during these delays.
The Jackson Road project is part-way through the second year of its two-year project schedule. It is anticipated that this project will be completed and the boulevard will be opened to traffic by the end of 2009. However, please be advised that due to weather conditions, all dates are tentative and subject to change.
To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through work zones. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been further reduced to 35 mph to accommodate the transitions to and from the new roadway. In addition, the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department has been providing increased enforcement activity during construction to assure the safety of the road crews and motorists. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
