What: Private Contractor Snow Plowing

Background

The Road Commission has received inquiries from homeowners associations and contractors regarding private companies performing snow plowing and winter maintenance on public roadways.  This work in the right-of-way is a permitted activity, and in response to these inquiries the Washtenaw County Road Commission passed the following resolution:

“Moved… that upon the recommendation of the County Highway Engineer and concurrence of the Managing Director, the Board hereby waives the permit application fee for contractors performing winter maintenance / snow plowing on subdivision and corporate park public roadways.  It is understood that the contractor must furnish proof of insurance in accordance the WCRC Procedures & Regulations for Permit Activities and a security deposit in the amount of $500 per subdivision/corporate park plus $100 per mile.  It is further understood that the security deposit would be fully refunded provided no damage is observed upon completing a final inspection of the roadways the following spring.”
