What: Seasonal Weight Restrictions – SUSPENDED
When: Effective 6:00 a.m., Monday April 6, 2009
Where: Countywide
Why: Road and Weather Conditions
Background
The Washtenaw County Road Commission announced that the County Highway Engineer has SUSPENDED the Seasonal Weight Restrictions, effective 6:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2009. This action is taken in accordance with the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners’ Resolution No. RC09-052, and pursuant to Act 300 of the Public Acts of 1949, as amended [MCL §257.722].
The Seasonal Weight Restrictions were imposed on February 13, 2009; the restrictions will have been in effect for 51 days. Typically, each spring, and in accordance with state law, the Road Commission reduces the weight and speed limits on these roads as temperatures begin to rise and the ground begins to thaw. As the road subsurface thaws, the roads ability to carry weight is reduced, meaning that a weight that would not affect a road under normal conditions, might now damage the road. These restrictions help to extend/preserve the service life of the roadways.
A Truck Operator’s Map is available from the Road Commission, which depicts road classifications (designated or normal) and the corresponding weight restrictions. The map can be viewed by visiting the Road Commission website at www.wcroads.org or obtained from the Washtenaw County Road Commission Permit Office, located at 555 N. Zeeb Road, Ann Arbor, Michigan, during normal office hours: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
