Background

On Tuesday afternoon, May 26, 2009, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will CLOSE the Dancer Road Bridge over the Mill Creek, due to beam failure. The bridge, located between Liberty Road and Jerusalem Road in Sections 26 & 27 of Lima Township, will be closed indefinitely until further notice. The deterioration and recommended closure of this structure was determined during a routine, annual bridge inspection.

The posted DETOUR for this bridge closure on Dancer Road will be Liberty Road to Steinbach Road to Jerusalem Road.

The bridge will be closed by using Type III barricades and concrete barrier. Another method for permanent closure (i.e., guardrail) may be necessary in the future. It is unknown at this time when this bridge will be replaced; however, the Road Commission will be assessing any and all funding options to replace this structure as soon as it is financially feasible.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as the agency determines the best course of action to address this bridge closure.
