On October 21, 2008, the Washtenaw County Board of County Road Commissioners adopted the agency’s 2009-2013 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).
During the first few years of the CIP, the Road Commission will be completing many important and needed road improvements, as well as replacing or rehabilitating bridges and culverts. In addition, this CIP includes a Preventative Maintenance Plan that will help to ensure the long-term stability of the Washtenaw County road network. However, transportation funding on both the state and federal levels is expected to decrease substantially over the next several years, thus limiting the number of road improvements in the 2009-2013 timeframe.
Just a few of the major road improvement projects planned for 2009 include Milan-Oakville Road which consists of reconstruction and rehabilitation work between the City of Milan and 0.5 mile east of Gooding Road; Replacement of the Willow Road Bridge west of Whittaker Road in Augusta Township; Replacement of the Plymouth Road Bridge west of M-153 (Ford Road) in Superior Township; Resurfacing of Hewitt Road between Clark Road and Packard Road in Ypsilanti Township, which is partnered with YCUA (Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority) to upgrade the watermain system; Plymouth Road at Gotfredson Road in Superior Township, which will construct left turn lanes and install a traffic signal; and a County-Wide Pavement Preservation Program.
A few of the projects being carried over from 2008 include the Jackson Road, Phase III Boulevard project, between the Honey Creek and Dino Drive in Scio Township; Replacement of the Main Street Bridge in the Village of Dexter and Scio Township; and the rehabilitation of the East Delhi Road Bridge in Scio Township.
Throughout this year, projects can be viewed on the Road Commission’s website under Roadwork. This section of the website provides up-to-date information on projects, construction schedules, detour routes and other road improvement activities. Public information meetings that pertain to projects will also be posted on the website, as they are scheduled throughout the coming months.
