What: Bridge Replacement

When: Thursday, September 4, 2008

Where: Dexter Main St Bridge over Mill Creek, Scio Township, Village of Dexter

Why: Dexter Main Street Bridge, traffic shift, two-way traffic

Background

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and the E.T. MacKenzie Company completed the necessary roadway approach construction, including asphalt paving and pavement striping, on Thursday, September 4, 2008. With the completion of this work, two-way traffic was shifted onto the newly constructed roadway approach and Main Street Bridge at 7:30 PM yesterday evening.

The newly constructed portion of the Dexter Main Street Bridge is capable of carrying full, legal highway loads; the remaining weight limit signs are expected to be removed today. To accommodate the construction of the southerly portion of the new bridge, the two newly opened lanes on the bridge are relatively narrow at 10-feet wide. Motorists are cautioned to comply with the 25 MPH speed limit and to be aware of approaching and turning traffic.

Stage 2 of the project, including the removal of the remaining portion of the new bridge, is expected to begin today. Motorists need to continue to be attentive to the ongoing construction operations as this new stage of the project begins.

The Village of Dexter, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and Dexter Area Fire Department have been advised of the newly shifted traffic pattern.

To maintain the safety of the road and bridge crews, please continue to reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits remains 25 MPH. The Road Commission, the Village of Dexter and the E.T. MacKenzie Company appreciate the patience that has been shown by area residents, motorists and businesses in completing this first stage of the bridge replacement and dam removal project.
