Dexter Main Street Bridge Daytime Closures

Posted on August 26, 2008

What: Bridge Replacement

When: Tuesday, September 2 through Thursday, September 4, 2008

Where: Dexter Main St Bridge over Mill Creek, Scio Township, Village of Dexter

Why: Roadway approach work / Main Street daytime closure

Background

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and the E.T. MacKenzie Company have scheduled the daytime closure of Dexter Main Street on September 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The closure is expected to be in effect between 9 AM and 4 PM all three days.

These daytime closures will facilitate the completion of the roadway approach construction to the east and west of the bridge. The work involved will include the milling of the existing asphalt surface, grading, paving and pavement striping. Based on this schedule, two-way traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed portion of the Dexter Main Street Bridge at the end of the day Thursday, September 4th. The asphalt paving work involved is weather dependent.

The closure limits will extend from Jeffords Street to Dexter-Chelsea Road. Detour signs will be in place directing westbound traffic along the detour route; the detour route includes Broad Street, Third Street, Central Street, Mast Road, North Territorial Road and Dexter-Pinckney Road. The changeable message board in the Village will be providing advance warning to westbound motorists. Traffic movement through the Dexter-Chelsea Road/Dexter-Pinckney Road intersection will be maintained with flag control.

The Village of Dexter, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and Dexter Area Fire Department have been advised of this situation. The westbound movement of emergency vehicles through the closure area will be maintained.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please continue to reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits remains 25 mph. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as we near the completion of the first stage of this bridge replacement.
