What: Bridge Replacement
When: Wednesday, November 5, 2008
Where: Dexter Main St Bridge over Mill Creek, Scio Township, Village of Dexter
Why: Bridge beam delivery / Main Street traffic delays
Background
The delivery of the remaining five (5) new precast concrete I-beams for the Dexter Main Street Bridge has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 5, 2008. As with the previous delivery, the beams will be routed from I-94 to Baker Road to Main Street; the beams will be escorted individually from the Baker/Main intersection to the bridge site. The beams are expected to arrive around noontime; approximately three (3) hours will be needed to place the five beams. These sizable concrete beams are 101-feet long and 54-inches in height.
Traffic on Main Street, including side streets (Jeffords, Alpine, Broad, Central) and driveways, extending from the Baker Road intersection to the bridge site, will be halted during the movement of the beams to the bridge. During the lifting and placement of the beams, two-way traffic will be maintained in a single lane across the bridge with a flagging operation. Delays are likely and motorists are advised to seek an alternate route, if possible.
The Village of Dexter, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department and Dexter Area Fire Department have been advised of this situation.
To maintain the safety of road crews, please be conscious of the ongoing bridge construction activities, including crews and equipment, and reduce speeds accordingly. The posted speed limit within the project limits remains 25 mph. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as we continue these improvements for the county road system and the Village of Dexter.
