What: Road Reconstruction / Closure

When: Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Where: Platt Road, between Judd Road and Willis Road; AND Platt Road, between Willis Road and Bemis Road, in York Township

Why: Platt Road Closure / Detour Route

Background

Beginning on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will impose a ROAD CLOSURE on PLATT ROAD, between Judd Road and Bemis Road in York Township, for reconstruction and widening of the existing roadway and related drainage improvements.

Traffic on Willis Road will be restored to one lane in each direction prior to this closure of Platt Road.

Platt Road traffic between Judd Road and Willis Road will be detoured through July 4, 2008; Platt Road traffic between Willis Road and Bemis Road will be detoured through August 1, 2008. There will be a posted detour in place while this work is performed. The DETOUR will include routes along Stony Creek, Carpenter, Willis, and Bemis Roads.

Access for residents within these closure areas will be maintained. Residents will be contacted regarding activities that may temporarily limit driveway access, such as concrete curb and gutter construction or excavations.

The entire project, which includes the reconstruction of Willis Road, Platt Road, Bemis Road, and the widening of the US-23 southbound ramps, is scheduled to be completed by September 2008. Additional traffic advisories will be issued as construction progresses through the various stages of this project.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been reduced to 35 mph. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department has been advised of this road work and related speed reduction.

The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
