What: CLOSURE/DETOUR OF EASTBOUND TRAFFIC IMPOSED for the (Dexter) Main Street Bridge/Dam Removal Project
When: Effective Immediately, Monday, May 19, 2008
Where: (Dexter) Main Street Bridge over Mill Creek / Mill Creek Dam, in Scio Township and the Village of Dexter
Why: FAILURE of the APPROACH ROADWAY at the EAST END of the existing (Dexter) Main Street Bridge
Background
Effective immediately, Monday, May 19, 2008. The Washtenaw County Road Commission has implemented a CLOSURE on the (DEXTER) MAIN STREET BRIDGE for all EASTBOUND TRAFFIC. This closure has become necessary due to the observed failure of the approach roadway at the east end of the existing bridge. This roadway failure is the result of an existing, previously unidentified void under the road approach.
The Village of Dexter, Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, and Dexter Area Fire Department have been advised of this situation. This EASTBOUND CLOSURE is expected to remain in place until late-July; however, the duration of this closure will depend upon the progress made in the construction of the northerly section of the new bridge. Various alternatives were considered to repair the approach roadway. However, being mindful to the health, safety, and welfare of the motoring public and the construction personnel, the Road Commission has determined this EASTBOUND CLOSURE to be unavoidable.
Two posted detour routes have been established. The POSTED DETOUR ROUTE for eastbound Dexter-Pinckney Road motorists will be to follow North Territorial Road and Mast Road. For eastbound motorists in the immediate vicinity of the bridge, the POSTED DETOUR ROUTE will follow Dexter-Chelsea Road, Parker Road, Jackson Road, and Baker Road.
To maintain the safety of road crews, please continue to reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits will remain at 25 mph. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as we continue these improvements for the county road system and the Village of Dexter.
