When: Effective Friday, May 9, 2008
Where: Feldkamp Road, between Michigan Avenue (US-12) and Klager Road in Saline Township
Why: Due to stability failure of the south abutment
Background
On Friday morning, May 9, 2008, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will CLOSE the Feldkamp Road Bridge over the Saline River, due to stability failure of the south abutment. The bridge, located between Michigan Avenue (US-12) and Klager Road in Section 17 of Saline Township, will be closed indefinitely, until further notice. The deterioration and recommended closure of this structure was determined during a routine, annual bridge inspection.
The posted DETOUR for this bridge closure on Feldkamp Road will be Austin Road to Schill Road to Michigan Avenue (US-12). A map of the recommended detour route and periodic updates on the status of the bridge replacement will be posted to this website. Please check back for further updates.
The bridge will be closed using Type III barricades and concrete barrier. Another method for permanent closure (i.e., guardrail) may be necessary in the future. It is unknown at this time when this bridge will be replaced; however, the Road Commission will be assessing any and all funding options to replace this structure as soon as it is financially feasible.
The Washtenaw County Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as the agency determines the best course of action to address this bridge closure.
