Posted on July 28, 2008

What: Watermain Installation and Pavement Milling (removal) Operation - traffic delays

When: Beginning Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Where: Baker Road at Jackson Road / Jackson Road between Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and west of Dino Drive in Scio Township

Why: Reconstruction and Widening Project

Background

The Washtenaw County Road Commission and Dan’s Excavating, Inc. have scheduled installation of watermain across Baker Road at Jackson Road to begin on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. The watermain installation is scheduled to take approximately two days. Once the watermain installation is complete across Baker Road, watermain will be installed across Jackson Road west of Dino Drive. Again, this second watermain crossing is expected to take approximately two days.

In addition, pavement milling (removal) operations are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 on Jackson Road between Jackson Industrial Drive and Dino Drive. The milling operations are expected to last approximately one week. The asphalt millings generated from the operation will be used as part of the construction of a temporary roadway along the south side of Jackson Road. When completed, this temporary roadway will serve as a bypass for motorists during the subsequent sanitary sewer installation and the reconstruction and widening of Jackson Road.

Two-way traffic on Baker Road and Jackson Road will be maintained during these operations by traffic regulators (flaggers). Intermittent traffic delays and lane shifts will be necessary to complete this work. Therefore, motorists should expect long delays.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through work zones. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
