Posted on July 21, 2008

What: Road Reconstruction / Closure

When: July 23, 2008 (Platt Road reopening) / July 25, 2008 (Willis Road closure)

Where: Platt Road between Judd Road and Willis Road AND Willis Road at US-23 in York Township

Why: Reconstruction and Widening of Willis and Platt Roads

Background

The current road closure on PLATT ROAD, between Judd Road and Willis Road, is scheduled to OPEN TO TRAFFIC on July 23, 2008.

Beginning on Friday, July 25, 2008, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will impose a ROAD CLOSURE on WILLIS ROAD between the northbound and southbound US-23 ramps (at the US-23 overpass) for reconstruction and widening of the existing roadway.

Traffic on Willis Road will be detoured through Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Access to the US-23 ramps will be maintained at all times. However, motorists may find it necessary to follow the posted detour route for access to/from the US-23 ramps. The posted detour for eastbound and westbound Willis Road traffic will follow Platt Road, Stony Creek Road, and Carpenter Road.

The entire project, which includes the reconstruction and widening of Willis Road, Platt Road, the Bemis-Platt intersection and the widening of the US-23 ramps, is scheduled to be completed by September 2008. Additional traffic advisories will be issued as construction progresses through the various stages of this project.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been reduced to 35 mph. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) has notified the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department of this road work and related speed reduction. The WCRC thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
