Willis Road Reconstruction & Closure

Posted on April 15, 2008

What: Road Reconstruction and Closure

When: Beginning Monday, April 21, 2008

Where: WILLIS ROAD, between Platt Road and Emerson Drive in York Township

Why: Willis Road Closure / Detour Route

Background

Beginning Monday, April 21, 2008, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will impose a ROAD CLOSURE on WILLIS ROAD, between Emerson Drive and Platt Road in York Township. This road closure will facilitate the continued reconstruction and widening of Willis Road that began in 2007. The road construction activities associated with this closure are expected to be completed in June, depending on weather conditions.

All Willis Road traffic between Emerson Drive and Platt Road will be DETOURED (follow Platt Road to Bemis Road to Moon Road). The posted detour will remain in place throughout this stage of the project. Electronic message boards are being set up on Willis Road to advise passing motorists of this impending road closure.

Access for residents within the construction zone will be maintained. Residents will be contacted regarding activities that may temporarily limit driveway access, such as concrete curb and gutter construction or excavations.

The entire project, which includes the reconstruction of Willis, Platt, and Bemis Roads, and the widening of the US-23 ramps, is scheduled to be completed by August 2008. Additional traffic advisories will be issued as construction progresses through the various stages of this project.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously in the project work zone, which includes Willis Road, Platt Road, Bemis Road, and the US-23 ramps. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been reduced to 35 mph. The WCRC has notified the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department of this road work and related speed reduction. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
