After having to impose several months of detours and Maple Road traffic delays, the Road Commission is pleased to announce the opening of the third roundabout and the reopening of Maple Road north of M-14, effective Friday evening, September 21, 2007.
Since mid-June, Maple Road from Foss Street to Blueberry Lane, along the border of Ann Arbor and Scio Townships, has been closed for the construction of three modern roundabouts. Throughout this project, the Washtenaw County Road Commission worked closely with Ann Arbor Public School officials, Granger Construction Company, Michigan Department of Transportation, the City of Ann Arbor, Midwestern Consulting LLC and other authorized representatives to complete these necessary traffic improvements. These improvements were constructed in association with the new Skyline High School.
By the end of July, Stage 1 of the project was completed and opened to the motoring public. This stage included the two southerly roundabouts located at the Maple Road/M-14 interchange ramps and service drives.
Stage 2 of the project from the M-14 westbound off ramp/service drive north to Blueberry Lane remained closed to traffic while work crews finished the project. Due to unusual heavy rainfalls during the month of August, the completion of the project was delayed until mid-September. The entire project was funded by the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
The Washtenaw County Road Commission wishes to thank area residents, business owners, members of Kingdom Hall, and the public for their patience and cooperation during this four-month reconstruction period.
The successful completion of this project is due to the cooperative efforts of the Ann Arbor Public Schools, the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan Department of Transportation, the townships of Scio and Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Road Commission. The result is a well-constructed road system that will accommodate future traffic generated by the new Skyline High School, reduce queuing on the westbound M-14 off ramp, and enhance safety to all users of the road system.
