Effective Monday, August 27, 2007, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will impose changes to the bridge weight restrictions listed below. These changes are based on the proposed postings recommended by Scott Civil Engineering, the consultant hired by the Road Commission to complete the 2007 bridge inspections in Washtenaw County.
The
three-unit posting of weight restrictions for many of these
bridges correspond to the allowable gross vehicle weights and
loads – or a combination thereof - per “unit.” The order of the
three weight restrictions correspond to 1-unit, 2-units, 3-units.
(Example: 1 unit = a typical car/truck/bus; 2 units = semi-truck
and one trailer, 3 units = semi-truck and two trailers.)
A
single-unit posting is the maximum weight limit for any
type of vehicles. Any vehicle over the posted single-weight limit
should not cross the structure.
Motorists traversing bridge and culvert structures with loads exceeding the weight restrictions are guilty of a civil infraction and subject to a civil fine, as set forth in Michigan Vehicle Code, Public Act 300 of 1949, Section MCL 257.631. For your safety and that of the other motorists, the Washtenaw County Road Commission advises strict adherence to these bridge weight restrictions.
