What: Closure of two culverts
When: Effective immediately on Wednesday, July 18, 2007
Where: On Willow Road, west of Case Road; and on Case Road, north of Willow Road; both culverts are located in Saline Township
Why: Due to failed condition of these two large culverts
Background
On Wednesday morning, July 18, 2007, the Washtenaw County Road Commission CLOSED the Willow Road culvert, located between Michigan Avenue (US-12) and Case Road, and the Case Road culvert, located between Michigan Avenue (US-12) and Willow Road, both of which are in Saline Township. The closures are due to the failed condition of these two large culverts, which was determined by hired consultant, Scott Civil Engineering. The consultant has been conducting inspections of Washtenaw County bridges and culverts over the past month. Based on the severe deterioration of these culverts, the consultant recommended to the Road Commission that they be closed immediately for the safety of the motoring public.
The posted DETOUR will be Willow Road, to Roehm Road, to Braun Road, to Michigan Avenue (US-12). The roads will be closed by using Type III barricades. Another method for permanent closure (concrete barrier or guardrail) may be necessary in the future. It is unknown at this time when these culverts will be replaced; however, the Road Commission will be assessing any and all funding options to restore this segment of roadway as soon as it is financially feasible.
The Washtenaw County Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as the agency determines the best course of action to address these culvert closures.
