Chair of the Board
Fred Veigel has served on the Washtenaw County Board of Road Commissioners since he was first appointed by the County Board of Commissioners in December of 1990 and officially assumed his Road Commissioner position in January 1991. Commissioner Veigel’s current term will expire effective December 31, 2008, unless he is reappointed by the County Board at the end of this year. In addition to being a member on the Road Commission Board, Veigel has previously held the positions of both Chair and Vice-Chair of the WCRC Board throughout his term of appointment. A graduate from Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, Veigel has been a long time resident of Washtenaw County and Ypsilanti. He graduated from Local 252 IBEW with a 4-year electrical apprenticeship in 1958, is a U.S. Army veteran, and has held a multitude of prominent public service positions in the County that span over 40 years.
 
David E. RutledgeDavid E. Rutledge
Vice-Chair of the Board
Appointed to the Board of County Road Commissioners for a six-year term in January 2005, David Rutledge is the Owner and President of Alpha Environmental Services, Inc., located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee and has done graduate work at both the Harvard Law School and the University of Michigan Law School. He has served on the part-time faculty of Wayne State University in their College of Lifelong Learning. Rutledge is a military veteran having served in the United States Air Force as a Personnel and Administrative Officer achieving the rank of Captain.

Resignation
Due to the federal Hatch Act*, Wes Prater has resigned from his board position with the Washtenaw County Road Commission to pursue his candidacy for the county's Board of Commissioners.

*The Hatch Act bars state, county and municipal appointees from running for public office in partisan races if their job duties are connected to programs financed even in part by federal grants and loans.
