Sec.8 - Converting Private Roads into Public Roads
Converting Private Roads Into Public Roads
The WCRC occasionally receives inquiries regarding turning private roads into public roads. Petitioners will be required to follow the same procedures and regulations imposed upon developers when developing public roads. Citizens who request that their private roads become public will be required to retain a qualified Professional Engineer to prepare plans and drawings and will be required to hire their own contractor to perform work required to bring the condition of the road or roads to current WCRC standards. Citizens will also be required to provide the WCRC with a warranty deed and certificate of survey in order for the full road right-of-way to become public, in accordance with current WCRC procedures and regulations. The Board may reject any proposal if it determines that the private road(s) offers little public value, or that the costs exceed the benefits of converting the road to public use.
